D0001: Age Poll, July, 1974
POLLING ORGANISATION Irving Saulwick and Associates SURVEY METHOD The sampled population consists of persons aged 18 years and older from 80 Federal electorates consisting of 46 metropolitan (including the ACT)electorates and 34 non-metropolitan. Approximately 2,000 interviews are conducted. 13 starting points are selected in each metropolitan electorate and 12 in each non-metropolitan electorate from the electoral roll, and 2 interviews per starting point are obtained with only one per dwelling. The interview is conducted with the youngest adult over the age of 18 available subject to a sex quota of one male: one female at each starting point. This poll is based on 1,963 interviews conducted in July 1974. BACKGROUND VARIABLES age / sex / highest level of education / religion / church attendance / occupation / income / occupation of head of household / marital status / vote at last Federal election / voting intention / number of persons living in dwelling / country of birth / self assessment of social class. WEIGHTING The responses are unweighted. THEMES - NAMES AND RESPONSES 1. After an election, people sometimes argue about the best system of voting. In many countries, voters mark only the ONE most preferred candidate on their ballot paper. This system is called 'First past the post'. In Australia, for a vote to count, EVERY name must be marked by a number, so that preferences can be distributed. Which system do YOU think is best..
